What an amazing book!!! I
can't fully express how much I have enjoyed this book. I was shopping at
Pier 1 with my wife when I felt drawn to go into the Barnes & Noble
store next door... (which is a rare occurrence for me, lol) For some
strange reason I basically went straight to the surfing section to see
what was there; and low and behold a book from Shaun Tomson...
unbelievable!!! I bought it immediately! I am a 40 year old male now;
and when I was a teenager, Shaun Tomson, Mark Richards, and Wayne
"Rabbit" Bartholomew were my hero's!!!
I love the usage of
metaphor's for each chapter and I couldn't put the book down. I am about
to start reading it again; I don't want to miss a thing!!!
I was raised in So.Cal; but
now live in Seattle, Wa... Here you have to love surfing, that water is
cold coming down from Alaska... brrr Up here, I think my crew are the
only one's doing the tow-in surfing with my Yamaha 4 person Waverunner...
We are surfing and wakeboarding in waves with the Waverunner... I can
talk forever about surfing; but the "Magic" that you provided was with
the metaphor's to "riding through life..."
I am going to buy many more
and give them as presents to my crew and others who share the passion...
I am always "turning on" friends to the experience.. I am going to order
a special autographed copy for myself... So when you see a lot of book
sales coming from the Seattle area, you'll know who it is... lol
Again, I can't thank-you
enough for this treasure!!! I hope Oprah will give you some airtime on
this; you deserve it... and then your sales will go through the roof...
Thank-you my friend...

Shaun is not only one of the
best surfers ever, one of the best athletes ever, but from what I can
tell after reading his book, I sincerely think he deserves to be put in
the category of those few men who, according to Latin writer Virgil,
"[should] deserve, for all their kindly deeds, to stay in the memory of
mankind".

I lived on the
North Shore during the late 70's early 80's. I had the opportunity to
see you surf your best in some of the best waves I've ever seen. In fact
my son Shaun was named after you. He has been a Pro Surfer traveling the
world on the WQS for the last 6 years. His dream is to make the WCT. I
plan to buy your book for him for inspiration. You set a fine example of
a true Surfing Gentleman. Hopefully this next generation of Surfers will
follow your example!

Aloha Shaun~
I grew up in the Southern California area in the sleepy beach town of
Seal Beach, and you were always an inspiration and one to look up to
while I grew up surfing and idolizing professional surfers of that era.
After all these years, I now live on O'ahu and when I recently ran into
you about a week ago in Haleiwa town at the surf shop and then inside
Kua Aina burgers and I got to actually say hello to you, well, that was
just a dream fulfilled. You were a very kind and quiet gentleman, as I
always had suspected, and though our hello was short lived it is a
moment that I'll most likely never forget. Mahalo for being who you are,
and who you always have been and of course I'll always continue to
respect you. From just another brother in the life long surf world... ~

Whenever I
heard commentary from Shaun Tomson during the Triple Crown in Hawaii, I
could sense that he really brings that feeling of amazing wonder that
most deeply connected surfers get in the ocean to his daily life and it
seems to rub off on people. Very inspirational to see him and the bro's
charge Pipe too, amazing!!!!!

I grew up as a
grom with Shaun and MR as my heros, modeling my style and surfing around
their approaches. Remember that poster of Shaun at Pipe on a twin fin?
Or he and MR in the barrel together at OTW? Still have 'em on my wall.
It will be interesting to read what he has to say and I look forward to
buying a signed copy. For those who are interested, I keep a daily surf
log online at cliffsrider.com.
